About the event
Hello!
I am so excited to share a limited amount of virtual tickets to No One Told Me.
This is the first time I am organizing a virtual event like this. It will be a bit of trial and error - trying to figure out what works. So if anything is unclear or questions arrise, please feel free to get in touch!
If you buy a ticket for the June virtual screening you will receive a link to watch No One Told Me online and an invitation to join a zoom call with me - Zulilah the filmmaker - and Elise (the mother in the film). For me, this film has always been about starting meaningful, vulnerable conversations about the postpartum time. Conversations that make mothers feel less alone in their experience. Conversations that allow future parents to get a tangible and realistic peek into what lies ahead. During the zoom call there is time to ask questions about the film and filmmaking process as well as discussing any other themes that arise after seeing the film. Themes like how to prepare for the postpartum time, how family and friends can support, how partners can support, cultural approaches to the postpartum time and perhaps the most important theme - how those first weeks of motherhood can feel.
Who is this for? Everyone is welcome. Expecting parents, parents with newborns, parents with older children and grandparents. Doulas, midwives and other professionals who work with new mothers are welcome too. It really is a film and conversation that is valueable for all human beings. My one advice would be > watch it with someone. Watch it with your best friend, your partner, your sibling, your parents. Anyone! It feels different when someone else is right next to you seeing and feeling the same. More potent. More powerful. And then again, if you watch it alone in bed with a tub of Ben & Jerrys, that is also totally fine. No judgement here.
If you are considering hosting a screening in your community - this is also a great moment to see what a panel conversation after a (micro) screening could look like.
The zoom call is scheduled for Sunday June 25th at 4PM EDT. You will receive a link to watch No One Told Me online three days prior to the call - on Thursday, June 22nd. You can watch No One Told Me any time before or after the scheduled call. Please do keep in mind that once you click the link in the email you will have 3 days to finish watching the film. After that three day window, the link will no longer be valid.
I do want to make clear that I am not a trained professional or expert in the field of birth or postpartum. Everything I share in the call is based on my own two postpartum experiences and what I learned during the four years of making this film.
I am looking forward to connecting with you!

NO ONE TOLD ME provides a raw and honest look at the postpartum period, a unique time in a woman's life. The purely observational footage of incredibly intimate moments shows the highs and lows encountered by parents Elise and Marc as they adapt to life with a baby. Focusing on the new mother, the film shares the physical, hormonal and psychological changes she faces during the first 10 weeks of motherhood.
